trail cam question

So when setting up your trail cams how close do you guys put them together? Last year I had three within a mile and a half which proved to be a mistake cause once the elk moved out I lost coverage on all of them. And I am sure this is different from area to area and season to season. But I cant have them spread out all over the country either cause they will make it impossible to check them all the day prior to the hunt. What do you guys do?

I don't have a problem with having 3 cameras within a mile and a half. Knowing that there elk in the area is easy as looking at the ground. If you see fresh tracks and fresh poop, you have elk. If you don't, you used to have elk. What I use the cameras for is to see what is making the sign and the frequency of travel into a certain point.

I had three within a mile last year and agree it's a pain when they move out, but it's still information. And I don't have to trek all over to gather them up. Although this year I will have some in different areas . Win some, and lose some

I have two less then 100yrds from each other on watching a seep and the other one facing towards the medow it's in. Then another one down the drainage on another seep. Then I have a third one across on next Ridge over on another seep and I am couple more on that one so I can truly see what's going on. I'll run 2-4 cameras on one area to get a better idea of what's going on. Know I just need more cameras to watch all the spots I have picked out.

My dad and I have 11 out now. It's too many. It takes us 2.5 days to check them all because of the distance between them and some are in difficult places to get too. Another problem with 11 is that it gives to many options of where to sit. Especially if they are all mediocre. Some are just a couple a hundred yards apart and some are up to a couple miles as a crow flies, but that can be more than an hour hike and 45 minute drive, as we can't fly like crows.

I think I need to take it down to about 4 each. Once we topped more than 8 it started to be less fun. Particularly because I like to take my 7 & 4 year old sons with me to place them and check them. The boys don't have so much fun when is sun up to sun down hiking. And having my boys along with me is as important to me as the hunt. They stay home during hunting, but if I'm out scouting, they are always with me. My oldest who is 7 now has been going since he was 2.5 in a backpack and can tell you where all my water holes are aswell as swedes!
