Draw tags?

Postby Lefty » 03 25, 2016 •  [Post 1]

I havent put in for many draw tags. at least not like what some fellows do!
Here in Idaho I put in for draw hunts other than OTC elk hunts.
Just curious how many can only put in for NR draw hunts.
Who is putting in for other types of big game draw hunts?
Ill be putting in for cow moose, My wife wants a trophy bull elk hunt, two daughters will be putting in for bull moose. My youngest wants an antelope.

Many years ago I did hunt Wyoming and hunted Alberta once. Other than that, I have always hunted in state. Ten years in New Mexico, and now, just shy of forty years in Colorado. Last year I filled moose, elk, deer, and antelope tags. I probably won't ever put in for goat, sheep, or moose again, but this year, I plan on two elk seasons. One draw cow muzzle loader tag and an over the counter, or left over tag. Then late antelope tag

Impressive
Idaho we are limited on the number and types of draws we can put in for.
Depredation hunts dont count.
Putting in for a once in a lifetime hunt generally eliminates other draw hunts such as trophy elk , antelope and some other special hunts.

Ill put in for idaho moose eventually, but i always put in for washington moose. Figure my draw odds for the wa oil draw is something like 1 in 2000. Not good, so this year im buying raffle tickets too. If the number of tickets sold the last several years reflects on the number that will be sold this year, ill have enough raffle tickets for 1 in 25 odds. Much better. I did draw spring bear this year, season opens april 1st.

In Colorado, the only limit, besides one of each species, is that you can only put in for RM Big Horn Sheep or Desert Bighorn the same year.
I might add that it took me 16 years to draw the moose tag and if I held out for bull moose,I probably would have never drawn. Another tag for a trophy elk unit, took me 21 years to draw.

I drew one goat tag in 40 years and I drew two RM Big Horn tags in the same amount of time. Finally stopped putting in as I got too old to do those hunt. For each of them a person has to wait five years if they drew a ram or billy tag to even try to put in. For bulll moose it is once in a life time tag

The boys and I are putting in for a CO muzzleloader elk tag. If we don't get drawn, we are heading back to Idaho for archery OTC elk tag. Either way we are gonna be in the elk woods :D

Actually, in Colorado you can get more than one tag for deer, elk, antelope and bear. There are List A tags, List B tags and List C tags. Here are the combinations you can have:

A
A + B
B + B
Any of the above and an unlimited number of List C tags

I do Utah, just because I got a handful of points before they started charging and now I'm obligated. 15 points and no time and no money what's a guy to do? Makes me appreciate living in Idaho all the more each feb.
