Duley Park, East Creek, Colorado

If you have heard of these places and have hunted them I would appreciate some info via PM please. I've made up my mind (well kinda) and settled on this area for Colorado. Plan B is Willow Creek/Coal Basin area.

I'm still studying Wyoming. I'm seeing that there are some good opportunities and high success rates. The biggest issue will be talking the hunting party into going to Wyoming. I'm looking at 102. The only thing I don't understand is how I would go about getting a general tag. Any help would be appreciated.

Haha...I was trying to be covert...

Looking at Avalanche Creek it looks like rather steep drop offs down to the creek. I'm thinking about camping at the 5 mile mark in Duley Park and hunting about 2.5 mile further in where Gift Creek comes in. May go as high as Avalanche Lake. There isn't anything I can find doing google searches of specific places.

If anyone has the time I would appreciate a breakdown of what sort of places I need to focus on in the area. To my untrained eye the Gift Creek and Avalanche Lake area looks good as well as the Hell Roaring Fork drainage. The HRF area is only 2.5 miles in and is a major trail going up. To me it looks like a good spot but I don't know what to look for.

I am not familiar with the area but did a little looking. That area sure looks punishing! To get from the bottom of the drainage up the hill is typically more than a 2,000 ft climb, and in many cases that 2,000 ft climb is in a one mile span...that is STEEP!

I would think you would escape a lot of hunting pressure in there from guys on foot, but I would also expect to see horses in there with all of the pack trails. Those horses could be tough to compete with in that brutal of terrain. When are you planning on hunting? Archery, rifle, etc?

If you haven't already, I would also suggest taking a look at the CPW mapping system. If you click on the 'game species' portion on the upper left side, you will see that there are a few of the elk concentration areas where you are talking about. One final tip: when you are done with this thread, I would recommend editing or deleting the specifics. It was pretty easy for me to figure out where you were talking about. The last thing you want to do is find a gold mine and have threads talking about the specific location.
