Elk hunt help (new to me unit)
Hey guys-I am looking for a little help here. Typically we elk hunt in southeast Idaho in the Diamond Creek zone, unfortunately the nonres tags sold out a little faster than normal. We will be hunting September 9-20. My first thought was Tex Creek, but after some research it seems to be better later in the year. I am looking to backpack in, distance is not a problem. I am not looking for any honey holes, just some direction for seeing some elk. I'm not partial to Idaho. Thanks for any help- Chris

check their website. they have a ton of useful info. hunter numbers, success rates, types of elk taken. I used this to find my spot in Idaho. I had a firefighter partner tell me about his old spot in diamond creek., then I looked at the hunter pressure..... no thanks... so I looked for an area that had lower hunter ratios, better success rates, and bigger bulls taken. and especially motorized vehicle restrictions. which unfortunately Idaho still lets them use dirt bikes.... have fun with your research. I am pretty sure most if not all states publish this info, I know Colorado does.
