Well finally we are ready to show you guys and gals our new reeds !!

The Phantom and The Reaper !!

Phantom is our narrow framed domed single latex reed.

Reaper is our regular frame domed single latex reed.

I used the Reaper exclusively this past elk season and was blown away by the performance of it !! We liked it so much we debuted it at The World Elk Calling Championships in 2014 !! The feed back from our competitors was amazing.

The Reaper is hands down my favorite elk reed I have ever used !! Give the Reaper a try and I'm sure you guys will like it as well !!

Both these reeds can be purchased by calling 780-876-6170. We will get them onto our website ASAP !! But for now we will take phone in orders. They are so new and hot off the presses that they are not even on our website yet !! You guys get the very first look at them !!

It's very exciting to finally see these reeds hit the market - the release has been a long time coming, but certain things needed to be taken care of in the interim. The Phantom was the first of the 2 reeds that came about, and its creation was largely an accident. The Reaper was just a natural extension of the Phantom design. Both reeds are great all around calls, but I personally feel that they truly shine when used for estrus screams, location bugles, lip bawls, and nervous grunts. People who have traditionally used Primos and Bugling Bull calls will likely find that the Phantom has a familiar feel, whereas the Reaper will be more familiar to those who have used many of the calls from the smaller companies. As with every other call, fit is going to be the determining factor as to which call will suit each person. Also, people who are comfortable using the wider frame calls will likely be able to use both the Phantom and the Reaper without issue (this is the case with me), but people with narrow palates will likely find best results with the Phantom.

Thanks Paul - that is exactly what we were going for with these 2 calls. We all have our favorite calls, but a lot of times in the woods I'll forgo using my favorite or "go-to" if I feel the situation may call for the rapid mixing of sounds - I.e. the breeding sequence from your new DVD, for example. Being able to mix up bugles and cow talk right on the fly is huge in terms of setting a realistic scene. For example, the Black Widow is far and away my favorite call, but if I'm doing a breeding sequence where I want to have 3 cows talking, another doing an estrus scream, and mix in a bull calling cows lip bawl mid stream then it just isn't the right tool, whereas either the Phantom or the Reaper will be money in those situations. It's all about finding the right tool for the job!

Can I ask why you wouldn't use the Black Widow call for a breeding sequence? I recently received one from Travis and I thought it would work great as an all around reed with a focus on cow calls. I'm new to elk calling though and just wanted to hear your thoughts of you'd be willing to share them.

Hey Jeremy,

The Black Widow is unquestionably my favorite reed in the entire lineup, and is the reed I am more proud of than any other. The reason I personally don't useit for breeding sequences is because I can't bugle as hard with it as I like to when trying to emulate an excited herd. The BW is a very soft reed - it was designed to be the best of the best for making the entire range of cow sounds at every level of volume, but I tend to limit its bugling use to spike/small bull bugles since I find it easy to over blow and kill the sound. It really all depends on what you are looking for - when I do my breeding sequences I usually try to mimic bugles that move back and forth from herd bull to mid size bull - those sounds are a bit too much for the BW to chew, but if you wanted to do spike/small bull type bugles then it would be fine. It will also do soft lip bawls, but you need to have a light touch. It will ultimately come down to calling style, even though I designed the BW as a cow specific reed, a person with a softer touch will be able to make it do a variety of other sounds as well. These sound great. I have one question as i am new to the diaphragm calling. Besides buying a narrow frame and a normal frame, is there a quick way to "measure" your pallet to see which path one may start down? I used to have a normal size turkey call, but i thought it was too big (i dont think i knew what i was doing back then and i may have had it in the wrong part of my mouth) and went to the smaller reeds. I feel like they are too small so i'm sort of frustrated. I can do the turkey sounds just fine, but i'm having trouble with the elk sounds and i'm not sure the small primos calls are fitting right.

Yes to measure quickly use your thumb and press your thumb finger print into the roof of your mouth between your upper back teeth. I can move my thumb side to side 1/4 inch so that would be a regular frame size. If your thumb fits tight you are most likely a narrow frame fit. Now you can get an idea how wide your upper pallet is. The ideal reed size will have the frame between your teeth but go with a reed that just fits between your teeth. You definitely do not want a reed that is to small and gets lost up there !! LOL

Keep in mind the bigger reed will give you much easier to attain sounds and will require very little air pressure.

Those Primos reeds are the same size as our small junior frame. I would suggest going up to the regular size frame and it will work out better for you Dr_flash.

And if your pallet is on the smallish side, you can do pallet stretching exercises to make it bigger. In some areas, a small pallet is seen as a feminine characteristic, so I wouldn't tell anyone if you have this malady. Lastly, you can never get the time back that you spent reading this post!

Just a little info for you guys. I was on Hunter's Specialties Pro staff for years and loved their calls but with that being said they changed their line and lost something. I have toyed with many companies calls and just couldn't find what I needed in a call. Travis, Shane and I spoke about the Wapiti River line and I am using them. The attention to detail that the guys put into the calls with latex consistency and stretch[in both directions] make them a superior call. If you have not tried the calls you are missing out.

Yes, it will be nothing for Travis to add vanilla to the flavors. Apparently, a marketing survey so far has shown that black licorice and broccoli (?) are the favored flavors. I don't know that you got your money's worth on that survey Travis.

Just got my shipment of calls. Man are they Purdy! And they work too! Already I am better than yesterday. a pleasure to use for sure. I really like the Reaper as it fits very good. It is a domed reed and that makes it really comfortable with no gag reflex whatsoever. One of my hunting buddies is anxious to try it as well!

Travis - The calls sound awesome and are really easy to use! I particularly like the cutouts; they really allow a better fit. The Phantom calls that I got for my girlfriend are definitely the perfect size for her; she's well on her way to making good elk talk.

I can't wait to get in the woods and slip some carbon through a couple of Roosey bulls! Here in Oregon, it's 105 days and a wake up!
