2014 Montana Elk Video

Postby mr_steve » 12 04, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Well I don't post often as I have only been elk hunting twice. This year was our 2nd year to Montana near Dillon and the best elk hunt we have had. I filmed the hunt and didn't have a tag but had more fun than Shayne (yotkilr on here) I think.

Here is the video to our hunt. Let us know what questions you have about our hunt. I am bias but this is my best video yet and can't wait for next year. We tried hard to capture a real public land elk hunt. Hope you guys enjoy.

I REALLY liked that video. Very well done. Was the camera man hunting also ? Takes a lot of work to put a quality video like that together...

Looked like a great kill shot to me. Kind of surprised you guys chose to wait overnight...

Thanks for the kind words! I was the cameraman and no I didn't buy a tag. I get an equal amount of enjoyment with filming and putting the video together. Definitely slows down the hunt which can be frustrating.

We spent a lot of time trying to find a blood trail to follow but it was non existent. If there would have been better blood I think we would have gone searching. We were worried that if we went looking he may get pushed and we wouldn't have any chance of finding him. It was a tough decision and easy to say we should have went looking for it now that we know what happened. Lots of 20/20 moments when hunting.

I used Adobe Premiere Pro CC. The camera was a Canon XA20.

This is professional quality work, better than what gets aired on outdoor shows. I commend your videography. The video is better than the hunt, you almost never see that. I hope you get recognition from the industry, your videography skills certainly deserve it. Love the sequence w the turning aspens, then the distant elk. Also the sequence w the closeups of the young bull, early in the clip. That is how to tell a story w images! Yours makes most other hunting videos look like late-night commercials for Crazy Bubba's Used Cars and Mattresses. I can't wait to watch your other productions.

Very nice! How do you up load video on to this site? Do you have to put it on Youtube first?

Great quality video! Wish I could of made it full screen!

Thank you! I found this old thread when I was posting it. You do have to upload it to YouTube. Here is the link for help posting a video.

Your words are too kind but appreciated. We hope to enter some outdoor film festivals with it. We have fairly good footage of our Wyoming antelope hunt but not this good. Next year we are going all out on a Colorado High Country Mule Deer!

Awesome video guys - I was considering the same area at one point. If I remember - weather was pretty hot those days? (I hunted 9/15 - 9/25 and had plenty of action the first half, almost none 9/20 - 9/25, until seeing one bull, and tagging him, on the last morning)

Jealous of some of the more open country - I could've left my spotter and binoculars in the truck the entire 11 days where I hunted...
