Late season Idaho elk

Has anyone hunted elk in November on unit 39 in Idaho? Archery is Nov 10-30. I'm wondering if they'll be all the way down in their winter grounds, or somewhere in the timber in between?

THOUSANDS of hunters hit this site everyday. I might not have a problem giving one guy some useful info but I think it's a pretty bad idea to advertise to the entire Internet exactly where, when and how to hunt a specific unit. Don't mean to be a jerk but I've been seeing more and more of these " what's the story in unit x" threads...

The late hunt is a migration hunt. Look for elk in transitional areas as they make their way to the wintering grounds. Also look for hundreds of hunters ( mostly with WA plates) converging on those same areas...

Not in that unit, but others. All weather related, it can go either way depending on snow levels. I remember reading the level somewhere between 14-18 inches and animals start moving.

Actually, you did ask for specifics.Also, in another thread posted about the late hunt , someone told the OP an exact location - which roads to take, where to park, etc. It may be the biggest unit but in November it shrinks down to about 1/3 of its total area. A big Part of the unit is closed and the rest of it is too high to hold animals in late Nov. Ask anyone who has hunted big game, sheds, or other pursuits for a lot of years and they'll tell you that the Internet ( and the public conversations that have taken place there) have all but ruined certain spots. The info I gave you about hunting transitional areas is probably the most valuable info you could have received, short of actual GPS coordinates. Again, not trying to be a jerk - just asking folks to be careful about giving away too much info publicly...

Idk. I understand, but I see it different. I had a guy, that I met the same day on a FB elk page ask me about deer. I offered to go with, he said yeah, I ggl earthed a spot in the owyhees, where I've never been, and we went. I put him on 16 deer 2 days ago. I just wanted to help a fellow hunter be successful. I didn't care if I got one. (He was rifle, and I was bow). I just enjoyed being out in the field.

Also, that was his info to give. If it's public land, he had every right. I see how "thousands" of hunters could potentially see it, and I understand that if all those ppl saw it, it would be ridiculous. But no one has a right to tell others not to give info. I hunted elk in a small area where maybe 10 other hunters were. One of which told me last year there were almost 300 hunters in the same area. Yeah, that sucks, but that comes with not hunting away from roads. There is always the potential for that when road hunting.

I didn't think you were being a jerk. No biggy. I'm obviously a little bitter about constantly having to find new places to hunt as more and more people move in...

I'll be up there for the late hunt start to finish. Shoot me a PM when you know what days you're going to hunt and I'll give you some leads on where to start looking.
