The streak is over

Well I knew this day would come, after a 7 year run on bulls i came home empty! Spent the lat 2 weeks in Co. busting my butt to get any elk but the stars never aligned. I came to full draw 3 separate times but never released an arrow.
The first one the elk was coming to my calls when at about 60 yards he stepped in a hole and fell down, he jumped up and started bucking in a circle and then ran past me at 15 yds never stopping until he was 40yds away behind some brush, then slowly walked off. The whole thing was actually pretty funny!
The 2nd was with only 4 days to go. Had a cow coming to my calls but she turned a little to go into some aspens, when she stopped she was at 25 yard but she was in a little depression and I could only see about 8 inches of her back. She eventually turned and walked straight away never offering a shot.
The last oppertunity a cow was coming to me and had stopped around 60 yards away looking for the cow sounds coming from me! All of a sudden she looked back and took off running right at me, a spike came running and chased her off. She ran by at 23 yards but i never seen her again!
I haven't fully given up yet though I may get a leftover cow rifle tag just to get some meat! This is why they call it hunting and not killing I guess Still had a blast though!!!

I've had a heck of streak going too and was close to blowin' it this season. But the last evening of my hunt, with less than 20 minutes shooting light left, I shot a little 5x5, and I was ecstatic about it. (Technically I still had rifle season, but in gun season I devote all my time with my kids to help them harvest something).

Glad you still had a good time. It's good to look at it that way; some get pretty down when they're not killing or things are slow. I just like being in the elk woods, but getting an elk is a bonus.

While I understand the disappointment, I feel jealous that you were able to watch an elk be such a klutz as to fall down a hole. It's funny enough when people do it, I'm afraid that if I saw something as majestic as an elk do it I would have laughed out loud right there.

Look at it this way. I've only killed two Bulls in 7 years so it could be worse! Now two of those years I didn't even get to go but that was worse then coming home with tag soup. Being from Ohio io feel lucky just to go elk hunting
