Going solo?

Anybody else doing the solo elk hunt this year? I plan on a 2 week solo hunt in northern ID. What a great place to be for 2 weeks!

Mostly tag team here but do about 25% solo as well, both have their pro's & con's. (grin) What dates are you hunting?

Solo here. Haven't been able to get any of my usual hunting partners to join, and figured I'll just be another year older when I eventually do.

Count me in, going solo in Idaho this year, the rest of the crew can't make it. My wife is a little nervous, but I am slowly convincing her it will be just fine.

Hi Paul,

I'm going to leave sept. 13,and plan on mon. the 15th for my first day of hunting.I plan on staying till the season ends,unless I get lucky,LOL.

current plan is to camp with a bunch of mule deer hunters and elk hunt. They all back out it will be a solo - I will go solo for three days during the week - none of the others want to get off the atv trails - I have a new pair of Kenetreks that are screaming for a ten miler so I really dont want to let them down:)

Do you have a "SPOT"? I feel WAY more comfortable with this unit hunting solo. If you get hurt,or in trouble, push a button and the helecopter is on it's way. You can also check in with the wife anytime with the "I'm ok" button,or let her know you got one with the preloaded "I got an elk!, packing out meat" message.Or any message for that matter.

Even though I know my area in Colorado very well, this will be the first time I've ever done two weeks entirely solo. Due to my Wife's concerns, I bought the Delorme Inreach (similar to the SPOT). It has a cheap montly plan that you can eliminate at any time, and basically does the same thing as the SPOT.

We all start solo, locate elk, than tag team. If one of us tags out solo, he is caller for the duration. I love this, because even if your tagged out, you are still in the elk woods participating.

Most likely going solo, all my backpack Elk hunts have been solo so far. It usually takes 2 days to get everything out.

I have a buddy that desperately wants to hunt with me, but with5 kids at home ages 6-16 and a growing business he finds it hard to get away. Last year his wife told me,to get him out.
My guess I might have someone or two one on two Friday Saturday hunts
but otherwise Im mostly on my own

I'm upping the odds this year with a bigger wall tent with a wood stove. Last year my "cold camp" turned into a cold,wet,miserable camp, to the point where a fire wouldn't have been enough to dry out my bag, and hypothermia was a concern.Now, there will be one less thing to drive me out of the mtns.!

Planning on going south with a group, but just got an interview for a new job and the wife wants to list the house soon. So might be staying local solo this year.

I like another person in camp. I hunt solo until I kill something then tag with my partner. Nice when you kill something too.

Been soloing the last few years. I like the solitude and pace. I've had some great experiences; wouldn't take anything for them.

I take my dad for the company at camp. He stays close to the truck or camp usually so I stake out on my own each day. There is a good chance I'll spend a few nights out in my solo tent and sleeping bag instead of returning to camp. I really want to do some caller/shooter set ups with him this year if he is up to getting further off the beaten path. We'll see when the time comes. Looking forward to it.

How much is the SPOT or something similar and where can you buy one?

I think the SPOT is on sale for $100. If you want 2-way communication it gets more expensive.
