"X" Marks the Spot

Mid day, September 2nd. You pick your way up and over a small finger ridge to check out a wallow area you found last year. As you peek over the edge, you hear splashing and see this guy. Yes, you have a bull tag and yes, you know that you'll take a bull this size on this particular hunt. After a quick range, the bull is 32 yards from your position.

If you feel you can make a lethal shot on this guy, place an "X" on the spot your broadhead will go. If you feel there is not a lethal shot here, simple respond "no shot, I'll wait".

To mark up a photo, copy it to your desktop and reopen in MS Paint. You can use any one of the tools available in paint to place a dot, X, whatever on the photo. Save back to desktop and you'll be able to use the "upload attachment" button on the bottom of the post area to select the picture.

Cool pic! I'm bowhunting at it looks like he's ready to stand up, so I gotta get my hind end in gear and get an arrow nocked and drawn back. But I will wait til he stands. He doesn't look spooked, so I should be in good shape. If he turns not offering a good broadside or quartering away shot, I can chalk it up to a great encounter.

I too would wait till he stands for a better shot. I would be afraid of one lung shooting behind the leg and above the shoulder blade. I would not get anything vital. Probably hit the spine and not penetrate. I will wait.

I would be get ready now and draw as soon as he looks away. Right now he would catch movement if you draw.
I know this changes your scenario, but if I was in my tree stand and saw this, I am ready to draw and would only wait for a better shot angle. I would not worry about being seen drawing my bow.

I also believe this is a get ready and wait situation. I've nocked an arrow, release locked on loop, and am keeping my big nose behind that little ridge and waiting for a good shot opp.

1......I don't shoot elk/deer laying down. Personal choice.

2.....I would never shoot an elk in a wallow. Do you want to skin it in all that mud?

I'm sure he'd get up and run with a bow, but a muzzleloader could plant him right there.

Gun to my head, have to shoot? Probably something like this, maybe a hair higher.... Very, very small window to "tick" the heart though. This will catch one lung.

without looking at what others have said or marked up, I would not take this shot. the reason being, I'm not sure where or what his bone/vital structure does in this position. i'll hit submit and read your comments.
