Colorado GMUs w/ No Antler Restrictions - with O PP!

Did you know that there are GMUs in Colorado that are E/S, have no antler restrictions and they also can be drawn with 0 Pref Points?
[These are for archery tags]
No antler point restrictions means spikes are legal [min 5in long]

Here are some:

GMU 50 - 100% of drawing with 0 Pref Points

GMU 51 - 50% of drawing with 0 Pref Points

GMU 56 - 100% of drawing with 0 Pref Points

GMU 391 - 100% of drawing with 0 Pref Points

GMU 461 - 100% of drawing with 0 Pref Points

GMU 481 - 64% of drawing with 0 Pref Points

GMU 500 - 55% of drawing with 0 Pref Points

GMU 561 - 100% of drawing with 0 Pref Points

Sure sounds like some areas to target for those heading to the Centennial State!

now that is an eye opener cn. let see, I could use a second choice for that and keep all my PP for others later.

unfortunately, I don't think I have been to any of them. Needless to say I am looking hard for new ground for fear the old ground is impassable with beetle kill by next September.
Now if only someone would PM me with a tip on one of those.

for those thinking of hunting 561, you had better be in the best shape of your life. it's a tough unit. I hunted it a couple years ago and with the late snow melt, the numbers just weren't what they should have been or normally are according to a local game warden I talked to after the fact. when I scouted in July there was still snow in a lot of places and the mosquitos were horrible.

If you plan to base your application decisions on antler points, PPS, and other numerical indicators, remember to consider all the relevant statistics. Each of these units has reasons they are easy to draw. 2 examples: In GMU 50, consider the % of public land in the unit. In 461, better check the 2013 archery success %.

Good point Elkduds...the same goes for units 461 and 391. Those are almost 100% private land with really no public access at all. I would think the success rates for archery in 50 wouldn't be that good either as that is typically a better unit for late season, not early.

Not so bad if you can get access. For example unit 391 has an average 25% success rate over the last 12 years, but the unit is 99% private property.

Despite these numbers nothing replaces feet on the ground. There is a lot of public land locked up behind locked gates out here. You won't know that unless you come and see.

I hunted 56 in 2010 and 11 and saw very few elk. In 2012 not one archery bull was taken! There's a reason It's easy to draw!
