How do you make this sound?

Postby Puttncut » 01 06, 2014 •  [Post 1]

If you search YouTube for "Elk Cow Estrus" the second video that appears (after 'Nut's) is a video shot by Paul Schlosser. I have never been able to find "this sound" in any instructional tool - what it is and how to duplicate it. What is your opinion of this vocalization? The fuzzy video of the nice six point at the end makes me think it's "sexual" (sorry!) and not "lost"... but it sure doesn't sound like the estros whine that gets so much attention. It just sounds oddly "different" - but she's certainly distressed about something. Thanks for your opinions.

Can you post the video you're talking about? Here's how. Go to the you tube video and copy everything after the "v=" in the link. Come back here, start your post, and click on "youtube" at top of the post. Once that opens, you'll past what you copied from the link in between the brackets "} {". Click on the preview tab at the bottom of the post and see if it took..

Hmm, that's the first time I've seen the fuzzy bull at the end of that video. There must be different versions. At any rate, if that's the video you're referring to Puttncut, its definitely an estrus buzz that the cow is making (as elkmtngear mentioned). It really is not an estrus (breeding) related sound at all, that's just the name folks have given it ;) Elknut has a very good tutorial on making this sound in the Tips and Clips section above.

The only time I have ever heard it, the cow was doing it not stop and was be chased by a nice bull, he was right on her tail.
