gettin close to the end

Postby bnsafe » 09 19, 2013 •  [Post 1]

I really thought I would kill an elk this year. between rain, rain, loooonnnnggggg hikes, and rain I havnt got it done this year. ive been close, 2 spikes at 35 yds, a raghorn at 68, a bear at 32 the day before season opened, but I didn't get it done. I am going to an area I have never been at before due to the floods for the last week so Im not holding out much hope. im gonna hunt hard the last week, but not lookin good. just venting after a close but frustrating season.
anybody else feeling beat up an sorry for themselves.

Its a new ball game now Scott.
Half-time - rain delay is over :)
Adjust your game plan and go

Remember - it only takes about 1 minute be successful

Scott, don't feel bad buddy. I think ya did well for your first season livin in elk country. Close encounters are good...not as good as backstrap, but good. I'm at the end of my 2 week solo adventure here in Oregon. Months of map reading, GE scouting, and wearing out boot leather has netted me nada. Been fun but frustrating. Could be the areas I hunt but Oregon elk are freaking weird. Second morning of 28* temps and not a peep to be heard from the beast. Sitting on top of this mountain right now, soaking in the beauty and contemplating the meaning of life I think I got it. Beef...it's what's for dinner.

Hang in there bud. I feel your pain and know exactly where you are coming from. I drove 28 hours to hunt a week in terrible weather and only to loose my first elk due to rainfall washing out my blood trail. I was discouraged but I would do it all over again if I could. My spirits were definitely down then in a second there was a big bull at 18 yards so it can happen when you least expect it. Good luck

Scott I am in your boat.

Here in CO this is when it gets good. I have held myself back holding onto days off for this week. The temps are at freezing at night and with the equinox Sunday, the rut is going to be in full swing.

Hunt hard and leave with no regrets!

Keep your head up buddy.. :D .. The last week here in CO is usually the best. I live in Summit county and this morning was the best yet!! Frost on the ground, cold temps, and a bull came in. Just when I was starting to doubt the day it happened. You never know when it could happen. You could see nothing all morning, season, whatever and all it takes is seconds and the whole season could be the best yet!! Never give up.. Hunt hard, hunt smart, and have fun!!

Stay with it folks. Last year we finally saw and killed a bull in the last 10 mins of our hunt. Good luck.
