Great/bad morning

Postby Sucobowhunter » 09 20, 2013 •  [Post 1]

So I went into an area right here next to my house for the first time. I worked all the way around this sweet ridge and meadow with nothing except a group of outward bound campers in the middle of an "elky" meadow. They said they heard nothing all night except wolves. Well we don't have wolves in co so I figure it was coyotes. As a work into the lower section of the north facing ridge I finally start to see the sign I was looking for. I find a good looking bench and throw a cow call...Bugle but far..Is it a hunter or real.. I go with real so I throw a chuckle then a good cow call sequence. Nothing..So I figure I will just find a good seat and drink some water and wait..15 min nothing so I am just about over it and I am getting lazy with my movement..Boom.. a single chuckle and he is only 80-100 yrds out.. Holy crap!! I grab my bow with an arrow already nocked and my windage and drop everything else.. I blow one cow call and go downwind about 30 yards to a good cover spot.. I have a couple shooting lanes one at 30 and another at 20 both broadside if he goes the way he should to wind me.. There he is right before the 30 yard lane.. I set myself.. I see his horns so I draw.. I realize as I draw that there is a poke of sun coming thru my lane.. Hurry The F--- up I think in my head.. He comes to perfect broadside in the 30 lane and the sun comes blasting out.. I'm blinded..I can't see anything..He keeps moving but stops right before the 20 yard lane..I can see him just breathing(it was cold this morning) We had a standoff for what felt like 5 min..I was pinned and couldnt call, move, anything..So he turned around barked at me and left. NO shot.. I'm so bummed. It just won't come together this year so far. I've come to full draw 4 times with no clean shot. At least I got another week.. 8-)

At least you have been to full draw. I have the elk hunting curse and I can't seem to shake it.

Everything that can go wrong will go wrong when I have a tag in my pocket and a bow in hand. The only thing to do is work hard and keep after it, sooner or later it has to come together (at least thats what I've told myself the last 6 seasons...)
