Pass or Shoot?

Postby cnelk » 05 23, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Does the bull in the pic below get a 'Pass' or do you 'Shoot'?
[Disregard day of season, tree in the way, morning, night, wind etc...]

No explanation necessary....

Just.... Pass? or Shoot?

As far as quality of bull, I would def shoot they are all trophies where I get to hunt. But I also would wait for him to clear the tree.

I'd shoot without hesitation, but then again, I've never arrowed an elk of any size or sex. If I'm 5 days in the mountains this fall, and are not on any legal bulls, I'll gladly notch my tag with a cow, for the tag won't fill my freezer!

Shoot if the tree was out of the picture.

I am obviously confused on the statement on the tree...ignore the tree like it was not there? I would shoot.

because you said disregard the tree im assuming your just asking if folks would shoot an elk that size. ABSOLUTELY YES ANY DAY OF THE WEEK AND TWICE ON SUNDAY. but ive never killed an elk, maybe after packin one out it might make a diff how far im in etc.

Honestly, it would depend on the quality of the area I'm hunting.
I've passed those kinda bulls when I had a quality tag in my pocket... not that it ever ended up paying off!

With the quality of bulls we've seen in Colorado in the last 3 years, I may start holding out a little longer from now on though.

I believe cnelk is referring to the ethical issue here as far as would you shoot or not? This isn't about the size of the bull. Maybe cnelk can comment on this?
