What would it take for you to skip 2 consecutive Elk Seasons? I have been offered a great money making oprtunity but will have to go back to school for 2 years. Would you give up to get?

I would give up my elk hunt to go to Alaska, moose hunting... oh, wait, I'm already going to do that this year!

Really though... life is what you make of it. You do what you have to do. Go with your gut. Trample the weak, hurdle the dead.
I know that personally, I've always had September foremost in mind before I excepted a job.
But, I never turned down a chance at a huge upward career move either.

for me that all depends on to many factors for us to give you advise. age, marriage, kids, current job status, education, potential for advancement, desires, etc.. for example i just moved to colorado and took a job that i dont really care for and only have 2 weeks vacation. come september im hunting and if i have to find another job then so be it. but im 42 so how many more years do i have, never killed an elk, can find another job very easily as im an rn. my life is pretty well set. if i was 20, had hunted elk all my life, worked a mininmum wage job with little potential for advancement that would all change. whatever you decide good luck.

It would be a tough call but depending on your age I'd say build a solid foundation by taking the job and in the end it might result in more or better hunting opportunities.

Passing on an opportunity is like choosing fast food. Home cooked meals take a bit longer to prepare but are way better right? Also... find something else to hunt to ease the pain. Hunt deer like you are on a mission! Good luck.

I think it is really an easy decision. you already know what the right answer is. The difficult part is to cowboy up and make the sacrifice.

Looking back on some personal experience in this area is that is the reason I got started late in life chasing elk. It had to wait until years of schooling and raising family responsibilites were taken care of first. .why would I ever desire to say my hunt was more important than those things?

You still have weekends & days off right? Take advantage of those. With some scheduling it may be possible? Personally, I would find a way but I live for that time of year!

I am at every other year, as a family compromise. I have a daughter in grade school and elk season conicides with 1st day of school. I don't like being an absentee Dad and husband any more than I already am! (Or I could be an absentee single Dad!). Deer season and a trip to western ND to chase mulies helps take up the time in between elk hunting seasons.

Don't worry, we will save a few for you when you get through school. Ya, I know they may be small and scrawney, but as easeup said "cowboy up, and make the sacrifice.".
