Elk Calling Practice!

Postby ElkNut1 » 03 18, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Hey everyone, the elk calling that so many are participating in is for all to become familiar with what a specific sound is & it's meaning. This is not a competition & we wouldn't any to view it this way. We want all to feel comfortable about participating, I'm sure Rory's intent (Phantom 16) was to help everyone to become better elk callers since there are many new ones on the Forum or lurking on the Forum. Bulls & Cows make many sounds & perfection is not important & neither is the biggest baddest sounds that ones can achieve. What is important is to know the variations a bull or cow may use in communicating with one another. If a bull is in a challenging situation there are a variety of sounds at their disposal. The same is true when a bull is trying to attract cows to him, he has short & long versions in his bugle depending on his mood & excitement level.

When cows get nervous or are bumped they can be quite chatty & their tones change from social to nervous or what's wrong type sounds. These are the things to understand when we are in the woods & such sounds are heard but the elk cannot be seen, yet it paints a picture in our minds eye!

So all please feel free to take part in the calling so you too can be speaking the 2nd language fluently! Do not worry if you do not sound like someone else, elk make lots of sounds when getting their message across, let's imitate those sounds as that is what's going to get it done in the elkwoods. Thanks.

Soundcloud????? I have never heard of that unless you are describing thunder. Anyway the other post was just my poor attempt at humor. I have been told it is often weird at best.
