Ariel just came across my Facebook. Dan Alder mentioned that the percentage of bulls taken over 350 are. . 0001

I guess realistically that number doesn't surprise me.

I've been working in the shop putting together cage traps for bobcats and occasionally picking up the bow to shoot a few arrows,

I haven't spent much time in the woods this summer since we don't have many ducks and geese around here anymore and my health has gotten better, I decided I'm going to run some traps.
This year I'm focused on the just the one bull

The places I have hunted were open to everyone and even now they are accepting all first-choice applicants except nonresidents. I do not think I have ever seen a 350 bull in the wild. Oregon has had a few, but five-point and smaller 6-point bulls are breeding where I hunt. I killed a 4-point herd bull about 10 years ago. Not good.

My group and I found lots of sheds across a few states for several years (stopped about 8 years ago, we still go out on occasion but nothing like we used too)

We heard lots of people talk about how they were seeing 350, 380, almost 400 type bulls all of the time….in all of the antlers we found, we got one bull that was 375…a handful in the 360’s and another couple handfuls in the 350’……there are very few bulls on public land in Idaho that hit the 350 category when you are looking at the entire state.

I know it’s hard to tell size at all in pictures but this bull with the big top is mid 360’s….the mass on this bull is unbelievable. My cousin still has this set at his house. When you look at it compared to a 340 bull he looks 380-390…I think this is where a lot of people miss judge. They see a 320-330 bull with a bunch of 280-300 bulls and they think the big ones are 380

Ive seen some big sheds from the Utah Nevada border,
A friend use to have a CWMU in the Utah/ Idaho Nevada border , He and his dad each killed 390s, ( I think both were cover pics in Eastmans, Then bought the ranch in Idaho where those bulls go to in the rut
My two nephews killed three bulls in the Gravelies( Yellow stone) 347,. 350, 353 15-25 years ago.
Father in law lost one, beside Yellowstone found by his partner a week later 393 green.
I scope had dropped a lense , I missed the bull and up the hill to a group of guys killed it: 357 green, Neighbor killed one years back in the Beaverhead Idaho side 390.
A kid that was in 4_H shooting sports with our daughters killed a 390 in SE Idaho

My daughter was twice under 20 yards another time 60 ,, she never took those close shots ,, A NR rifle took that bull was 347 green


I just didnt realize how few there were and this part of Idaho had those big "Yellowstone" elk.. I drew a Montana tag a few years ago ,, I was waiting for a 6x6,, I soon realized they were hunted so hard in the unit they weren't given time to age and grow.

Exactly what you said John. It holds true here in Colorado as well because they manage for quantity not quality. And everyone shoots the 4s and 5s before they have a chance to grow up. Even small 6 pointers are few and far between. However, there are a few so called trophy areas that do hold some nice bulls. But it now takes well over 20 preference points to be lucky enough to draw one of those areas.
