Screwed up. Moldy pack

Postby wawhitey » 12 31, 2025 •  [Post 1]

So when i came home from my idaho deer hunt, i left my soaking wet pack in the bed of my truck. Parked it in the barn. A month or so later, mold fest. Not good. Went to town today and squirted soap all over my pack and blasted the hell out of it with the pressure washer. Got it home and hung it on a fence post and it still reeks of mold. Tomorrow the plan is vinegar bath, tjen baking soda. Any other advice? If this doesnt get the smell out ill likely throw it away and buy a new pack, but i hate the thought of thatm

Dont throw it away. Put it out in the dry sun next summer and let the sun clean it up.

Vinegar bath, I've also had good luck with filling a tote with hot water, a little bleach and oxi-clean. Agitate the heck out of it. I've never had to deal with mold, but it's worked well on really bloody dirty packs. When I bought my old pack from a member on another forum, it looked clean enough, but when I got home and started messing with it, I picked up the smell and realized it had probably never been cleaned. It wreaked of old blood and animals. Did the above treatment with bleach and oxi-clean and changed the water until it came out clean.
I hunt therefore I am. I fish therefore I lie.

Borax, ,,
Vinegar
Peroxide
Baking Soda
Oxiclean
All individually should work

Le it soak and the product will do the job

Well not too long in the Peroxide

1 bottle of peroxide, 1/2 cup of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of non scented liquid dish soap. Pour it in a bowl and mix it up until the baking soda dissolves and let it sit over night for the reaction to settle down. ( If you put it in a sealed container it will blow the cap off) Ask me how I know!!!!! After the reaction settles down, pour it back in the brown peroxide bottle and put a sprayer on it. You need to keep it in a dark bottle as sun lite will kill the peroxide in it.

This mixture is strong enough to remove skunk piss from a dog that gets sprayed and even totally removes gasoline odor off your hands in seconds. So, I think it might just be the answer to your mold problem. Just spray it all over your pack, both inside and out.

Some guys say it may leave some little dull white specks on clothing. I've personally never had that happen. But what the heck! It's camo, right??? But I will admit, I had a little black and white dog that got sprayed by a skunk once and I mixed up a double dose of this stuff and really scrubbed him down good. The next day he was brown and white instead of black and white. LOL!
