June 2022 WT Photo of the Month Contest

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 06 03, 2022 •  [Post 1]

The June 2022 WapitiTalk.com Photo of the Month Contest Theme is: “Weather”. Share a pic of some interesting weather you've experienced while on scouting or hunting trip.

1. One photo submission allowed per month, per member (yep, stinky MODs may enter a photo also).
2. Photo must relate to the monthly theme (or risk being disqualified).
3. Do not use photo editing software to enhance your photo. Just post the photo as it was taken with your camera, smart phone, trail cam, etc. You may have to resize some photos so they are accepted by the forum software; remember, photos can only be 800X600 pixels "MAX" for our forum.
4. You may use older photos you have on hand, but, do not submit a photo that has won a previous WT photo contest.
5. Any WT member may enter a photo they have taken or appear in.
6. Judging – WT members will vote on monthly photo submissions.
7. Contest period will normally end the last day of the month.
8. Winner must contact WapitiTalk1 via PM and provide mailing address for prize (your prize may be sent directly from a WT sponsor or from RJ).
9. Prizes will vary from month to month.
10. All monthly winners will be automatically entered into the "photo of the year" contest.

The prize for the June 2022 contest is (to be determined).

Really cant get a good picture of it but man is the weather foul today! Non stop thunder, pouring rain, and just had a couple minutes of massive hail that made a hell of a racket on my metal roof.

The Great Blowdown of 2020!!

https://www.news10.com/news/15000-trees ... mph-winds/

I spent the night in my tent at 10,500 feet. When I woke up in the morning, everything around me was flattened. The jeep roads were cut off in both directions and I was stranded. I call the US Forest Service but it was in the middle of Covid and they were only checking messages remotely.
I left a message with my GPS coordinates and waited. About 2 hours later, I received a phone call from the forest service. They informed me that they knew were I was, I was their furthest contact (9 miles deep from blacktop) and they were sending in a team of sawyers to cut a line to me.
I was stranded, so I went hunting. 36 hours later, I returned to my tent to find a note attached and letting me know it was safe to leave. They estimated that the team cut over 1,000 trees to get to me. WEATHER!!

This one will be interesting. I've taken far more weather pictures while fishing than hunting. I'll have to see what I can scrape up.

Weather pics are tough

6/18 Actual scouting. While it wasn't my plan: This morning I really slept in, Hazy skies just like the weatherman predicted. 38 degrees at 7585 foot at least the mosquitos weren't a problem in the AM. Some good news is,, The snow from last week was gone just below the campsite. All the fences were dropped
The part that worries me, Ran into two others that were scouting the area for elk also

This was the very first client I ever booked. We set him up for a photo He’d cherish forever. He’s terrified of horses. Lol

Here is my contribution. Washington State high buck hunt in September. Hiked 8 miles back to a small lake the night before. This basin is another mile up 1500' and over a saddle into this high basin. We sat in the fog for hours. Unbeknownst to us, there were two bears within 200 yards of us the whole time. I got within 50 yards of one before it winded us, an then killed the other one an hour or so later. One nice aspect of sitting in the fog all morning on a blueberry infested hillside was the undistracted blueberry eating.

I am officially keeping my 2020 Blowdown pic as my entry for the month. I just wanted to share the sunrise this morning in Cancun.

They are buoys. There is a line of them about 300 yds off shore. I think they are holding back seaweed but I am not sure. The far middle right corner is a paddle boarder.

UPDATE: Just checked with a lifeguard. The buoy line IS designed to keep seaweed from washing up on shore.
