Tell me about Ground blinds!

Postby Lefty » 04 04, 2022 •  [Post 1]

I hunt from a OSB constructed ground blind off and on for years.
Last year during the muzzle loader hunt my Ameristep blind gave up the ghost.
I may haul in an OSB blind for bear hunting,,, However Ill need something lighter for deer hunting
Give me some advise

I love making ground blinds wherever I end up finding sign. I always carry a small flip saw in my backpack. 30 minutes with the local dead fall and I can be all set up. Then I trim out some shooting lanes. Here are some pics!

Ive always moved around too much and need better cover.
One year I spent about 12 hours total in my blind, mostly in the pouring rain Depending on the wind

I plan to take one with me this year. I rarely use it, but they have their place. If nothing else they are warmer on a cold day. I have never heard of anyone falling out of one either.

My wife prefers the ground blinds over the tree stands for the exact reason of falling and hating heights.

We have tried the ground blinds the last few years and have had minimal success. We have had several come in and have winded us. Definitely can be successful but I think the tree stands are over all the better options

A summit tree stand is still in the unopened box in the shed at my place. I think for bear hunting ill go with an old OSB box.

Ive been thinking of an elevated blind for deer and elk too. But Im not ready to give into Swedes underhanded hunting methods of ambushing from above.

The elk hate those high stands and want them banned. I just hope the Game Commission does not give in to them as it will just embolden them to ask to ban all the other sneaky and underhanded things hunters do to fool them.

The elk will get the law passed this year Swede…I’m putting money into those high tower thingy’s and so it’s sure to become illegal.
