Garage Scoring

Postby Tigger » 03 16, 2021 •  [Post 1]

Lets score our garages. We need to come up with a scoring system and all entries must be received before 7mm updates his garage so he scores low! Points for fridge, freezer, additional lighting, fan, pulley/hoist system, drain, hot and cold water, size (always matters when scoring garages!), workbench length, pistons stored other than main vehicles (Dodge's count 50% of actual pistons since only half usually work), square feet of shelving, fancy floor finish, heat, air conditioning, number of overhead and walk doors. Anything else? How do we weight them?

All ideas welcome!

Can't include any building not attached to the house. This is a garage thread!

You’re just trying to steal ideas for when the boss makes garages the theme of the photo contest. I just bought 4 new garages. 2 attached and a 2 car detached with a second level loft. I’m really excited to get all my crap organized AND decorate with the old signs, license plates, deer racks etc.

Im going to have to agree with 7mm on this one, some prep time is needed. I too have some improvements planned this summer.

Also, we need to keep a sharp eye on indian summer to prevent shenanigans. Hes likely to try to enter a garage that has previously won a garage scoring contest. Then all votes cast for him will be null and void, and swede may win by default.

My wife says our garage scores very low with her as it needs a major cleaning. It will get it soon or I will have another issue to deal with.

She just might take me up on that, but I would do the cooking. After thinking about it, I think I will stay with my garage cleaning chore.

Great point 7mm! A point for each rack and 3 bonus points for each species over 1.

1 stall garage: 1 point
2 stall garage: 3 points
More than 2, but less than 3: 5 points
3 stalls: 8 points
more than 3 but less than 4: 12 points
4 stalls 17 points
4+: 23 points.

You jerks blatting about garages got to working on my conscience, so I spent a good deal of the morning and afternoon picking up junk and disposing of useless items I need to get rid of. I did find a pile that I can take to Good Will. Often when I go there I am just trading junk, but sometimes I find some excellent junk.

You may prefer "trash" to the use of the term "junk, but Just type in "one man's Junk is another man's treasure" and you will find the phrase is in common usage. I just copied a web site cover where 11.3 K people are members of a group by that name. ;)

Swede. Swede. I don't know what to say. Don't double down on this one one and for Pete's sake, do NOT keep searching the internet for "One mans junk". It will not end well.

I am okay with double points for whitetails! Who is going to post up their score first? think Ol' Swede can get out of the 40's?

You jerks do not get the point. I said I was taking my "junk" to Good Will. I do not take my trash there. Saying "one man's trash ...." would not have conveyed the idea of what was being done, so I did not go there. I am surprised that you are trying to be the language police. At this time I have several boxes of junk ready to take to Good Will. I also have things in my trash can. They are not the same things.

Many moons ago one of my English professors said, "Good English is simply conveying what we want understood." I don't think he was much of an elitist. If I remember right, I got a "B" out of his class. Maybe I did not make myself perfectly clear. :D

Regardless of the rhetoric about trash or junk, after twos days of cleaning the garage, I can find things again. I found some good stuff I had long forgotten. It is my opinion that there was a lot of both trash and junk in there too. My wife doesn't care what I call it as long as it is gone. :D

Feels good dont it? My garage had slowly become an unpleasant mess i didnt want to recognize as existing. Now i find myself finding excuses to hang out down there and do stuff. My deer have already figured out to come mooch at the garage door for carrots. Theyre quick learners.

Okay, so i know you guys wont find this as hilarious as i did, but i actually did a google image search for mans junk to see if i could find a funny (yet non graphic) meme to post here in honor of swede. Well, i found this... it wouldnt seem so funny to you guys, but i was laughing my head off. You see, this dude was a friend of mine when we were kids. Grew up together from kindergarten to highschool. He ended up down in california being an actor and a model. So i wanted a funny mans junk meme to harass swede and found cam here with this caption. What are the odds? My guess is this is not a quote from him, just some weird thing somebody made. He probably has no idea this is floating around the internet.

My recycle bin is full and I took a full load of "junk" to Good Will today. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being great and one lousy, I have my garage up to about a 4 now. I think it is time to celebrate. It is time for a soda pop here to reward myself. :D

You hear that Swede? GREAT POINT 7MMFAN!

Based on these scoring outlines I have 7 points for antlers, plus 2 additional points for multi species bringing me to 9. What about bear skulls or cow skull with horns attached? Shed antlers?

I have 3 bays (8pts) and a loft storage area I built the full length of the garage, rhats worth something... 1 beer/meat fridge, a 4' chest freezer and a 6' chest freezer. What are freezers worth?

I have the height to hang a bull elk, just need to beef up a spot to do it. That seems like a waste of time since I'll likely never bring one out whole, let alone close enough to home to worry about it.

freezers and bear skulls garner a point each. Cows....I dunno about cows...assuming bovine. Cow elk get a point though. Storage is a slippery slope....

Swede will probably want to count his junk. We will stand strong against this! Not sure he can even count all his points without taking off his shoes.

Did we decide on workbench length scoring? 1 point per foot? Mine is 10' with a rolling bench that's 4'.

We should have bonus points for repurposing old stuff. All my cabinets and work bench are old kitchen cabinets and counters from a house that was being torn down near me. 1 bonus point per repurposed item?

Home gyms? Stereo systems? Pantry? Man the options are endless.
