3 or 4 Fletch Arrows?

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 04 14, 2020 •  [Post 1]

I’ve been using 4 fletch arrows for many, many moons. I have my reasons. Would like to hear if you wild bohemians have a preference either way and why? Just sparking some elky chat during the long off season.

I prefer a 3 fletch. It is cheaper.
I have had four fletch, but use whatever stabilizes my arrow. With the 100 grain broadheads and a total 425 grain arrow three four inch fletches do the trick. I have some three vane arrows, but prefer the old four inch fletch. If the arrows were 500 grains or more, I would use longer vanes and likely four fletches.
The bottom line is if what you shoot works well, why change?

I am currently experimenting with this very thing.

Using Blazer vanes.

My arrow is around 410 gr. with 3 fletch and slightly heavier with 4 (obviously).

Both fly well with field points.

The 4 fletch is about 5 FPS slower.

I am waiting to try broadheads before I make a final decision but am leaning towards the 3 fletch.

I’ve always shot 3 fletch - reason? Because they fly good and I’ve just never even tried 4. For me, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

I'm still shooting 3 4" shield cut feathers. They fly well out of my recurve and longbow, and don't slow the arrow down too much. I keep saying I'm going to drop to 3" but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I shoot 3 blazers for whitetail and 4 AAE for elk. My elk arrow is much heavier with 200 grains at the tip. I can't get consistent grouping, arrow stabilization with 3 fletch past 50 yards with my elk arrow, that's why I shoot 4.

That is exactly why you would add another fletch to your arrow. If three do not stabilize your arrow you can add one, or you can shoot a four fletch arrow.
