Jonesing for a whitetail!

Postby Bullnuts » 10 31, 2012 •  [Post 1]

For the first time in several years I'm sitting on the couch on Holloween, wishing I could be in a tree instead. No deer tag for me this year and it's driving me craaaaazy! I have a great spot on Colorado's eastern plains where several good bucks live, but this year I can only sit here and wish I was in the woods with the leaves fluttering to the ground, and imagine the sounds of tentative hoof beats making their way through the tall stuff toward my stand. Yarrrgh!

Is it a draw area or do you not just have a tag?

Colorado is draw for all deer licenses. Me and the boys have a preference point that we can use next year, but this year all I can do is drive by the river bottom every day and feel the tears run down my cheek!!

Nope. We've been all draw for deer for the past 15 years or so. It sucks.

Coming back from our WT hunt this year I saw some riverbottom whitetails in CO. I almost died. We just stopped to take a leak and I had 6 bucks travel through in the five minutes. All of them were as big as my buck this year or bigger, with one of them easily B&C.

I've seen some tremendous bucks this year. Lots of big whitetails along the Arkansas River. Maybe next year.

That's the best way to look at it Paul! That plus there will be more time to scout!
