ND Buck

Postby BrentLaBere » 11 11, 2015 •  [Post 1]

Was a tough season so far for me. Missed out on my turkey hunting, only having a few feathers to show for it. Went out archery elk hunting to have many close encounters. 1 miss and multiple times at full draw but couldnt get the job done! Even decided to head out for a short weekend rifle hunt. Had my chances in the timber at close range but wasnt able to make the clean shot (also need to mention of a lucky spike that I had to pass). After coming home and sitting at my desk watching the weather turn, I decided to take off work early and sit in the stand. It was one of the more exciting hunts ive had in awhile for whitetail rut action. 5 bucks total, all chasing 15 plus does in the area. Had two does face off in the most intense fight ive seen between deer. Wish I could have recorded that. A small 3 point was full out chasing a doe across the hillside, grunting as he got closer each time before she wold bolt again. Not long after a small 5 point came across the same trail, with no intentions of coming closer to my stand, I gave him a few grunts. Stopped him in his tracks, turned and came trotting into bow range. 40 yards out he had to stop and hit the scrape, raking the tree aggressively as he pawed at the dirk. Dropped his ears and began grunting while searching for the other buck (me). Came into the opening at 23 yards, small mouth grunt to stop him, and squeezed the trigger. Raining and tracking through CRP made it a little more difficult but I found him. Ended up giving him an hour but wasnt needed. He was really stiff by the time I retrieved him. Not the big one I was after, but it sure was a fun hunt. Also feels nice to punch a tag! Now ill get to concentrate on pheasant season and helping my brother fill his rifle buck tag.

Great job and nice kill! I just have my bow tag and haven't had much luck yet. Yesterday my dad killed a nice 4x4 with rifle.
