WI buck (my heaviest horned)

Postby timberland » 11 12, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Finally got it done Friday night at 4:30. Ma sat in my stand thursday night to "scout" it for me and saw this buck fighting with a smaller one. Friday he came to check a mock scrape at the edge of my food plot, then layed his ears back and started out into the plot to chase off a spike. Shot him at 17 yds and he went about 120. The shot was a little far back but caught the back of both lungs and probably some liver because the arrow was coated with blood and the whole abdomen was full of blood. He didn't leave much on the ground so the track job was kind of emotional but it was very fun to share with my Mom and Dad. 18" inside and 20" outside and SUPER HEAVY. He'll probably gross score about 140" for those that keep track. Mom (67 yrs old) shot a 2 yr old 8 with her bow a few days prior which was her biggest.

Got my bow buck back last night. I had boiled and cleaned the skull, and for $50 one of my taxidermists primed, painted, and hydro-dipped it.
Dad's already made me an elevated plaque so it will sit upright on the wall. Figured it was an inexpensive alternative to a head mount for a "not quite big enough."

What do you guys think?

If you notice, his nose was twisted to one side. He had a short looking head of a mature buck when I shot him but didn't notice the twist until he was cleaned up.

Nice buck! Where about do you hunt? I hunt around Hayward on my grandfathers cranberry marsh and shot a bruiser two seasons ago.

I live and hunt between Spooner and Cumberland. However, the bow buck this year was from Buffalo County. Dad owns 40 acres down there and I try to bowhunt as much as possible down there. Familiar with the hayward area, did quite a bit of work and have friends up there.

Not to take away from your fine WI bucks, but where is your mom's buck!?!?!? 67 years old and bowhunting is pretty spectacular!

I would say I got just as much as my outdoor passion from my Mom as my Dad. She grew up in a fairly large family. Lived on Venison and fish. Literally. I never met my grandpa, but Dad says that he had a huge nontypical that was a definite B & C qualifier. Dad told him to get it scored and grandpa refused, and it was revealed that the buck was used to feed the family, about mid-August. That rack was the only one grandpa ever kept around, but was lost in a fire in the 70's.

Man that's so cool! My outdoor passion comes from big time hunting neighbors and 'the' elk forum!
