Stopping Deer with Elk Calls

Last night on my hike I spooked a mulie doe. As she was bounding away I made a quick cow call and she just stopped immediately and looked at me for a good 10 seconds before walking off. I have heard of this working but have never tried it. Is this typical behavior?

Im sure her curiosty is why she stopped. But i have called in deer with a perdator call.

Mule Deer are curious animals. My friend carries a reed for this. Most of the people I hunt with just whistle loudly. Works most of the time, deer stop and turn.
