Hunting whitetails

Postby snake » 07 30, 2012 •  [Post 1]

This is for all you guys out west. Do you all mainly hunt mulies, or do you go for the whitetails pretty hard too? All I have here is whitetails, so that tells you what I have to focus on.

I have been mainly hunting whitetails here. My wife does not like deer meat so I only hunt for the bigger bucks. I have taken several mulies with my bow so would like to get a nice whitetail with my bow, have a couple close to 170 with a rifle.

Where we live here in Idaho, there were not many whitetails, 10 years ago or so we've seen a huge increase in them! We hunt mainly Muleys here but the Whitetails are taking over so we now see quite a few, we'll be hunting them too! I drew a nice Muley tag this year so my focus will be on them!

In Utah, I have never seen a White Tail anywhere. I therefore only hunt Mulies. This year I have a Limited Entry Muzzy Bull permit and a Muzzy Mulie permit for the same region and same season. I like the ability to go after both at the same time. It never fails that when deer hunting I see big bulls and when elk hunting I see big mulies. Hopefully this year I get to see both!!!

in washington our whitetail seasons are better than our mule deer seasons. also the part of the state i hunt in has a much larger whitetail population, tho i do see muleys. as far as personal preference, regardless to seasons or populations, muleys just dont do it for me like whitetails do. in order for me to take a shot at a muley he would have to be a real bruiser.

We head to Nebraska to get our yearly whitetail fix. :D I wish I could afford to rifle and archery hunt there.

Yeah, we have them in Colorado, but its not an every year thing, and besides, I would rather use my points for the awesome mule deer hunting here.
