Muley scouting trip

Postby elkaholic » 07 13, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Even though I didn't find the one, I would consider it a good trip. Got to see some bucks, take some pictures, set out a couple of cameras, and found a lion kill. Finding the kill only 300 yards from where I had been glassing quickly reminded me I wasn't exactly at the top of the chain any more.

1 question. For you guys using a I-phone was setting do you use to get good pics at max zoom on the spotting scope? This deer was almost 2 miles away. I could easily count points but couldn't get any good pictures. Any one have pointers?

He he. Lots of rocks down there for sure. Unfortunately I have nothing to show for my last trip. Sure wish I had an elk tag though as I saw a couple great bulls.

Yes, very nice! When using a spotting scope none are any good for viewing or photo sessions on max magnification. You need to keep the eyepiece screwed all the down, not out for best viewing. Adjust both focus & magnification on spotter until image focused on is crystal clear, you'll see what that is depending on the type of day you are taking photos? Cloudy days or early/late will allow you to go higher on the magnification. On those hot sunny days you will get about 3/4 of peak magnification at best! Play with it some & you'll see what days allow what! Have Fun!
