this buck gots owies!

Postby wawhitey » 06 22, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Does anybody know what the hell is growing all over this guy? Some bot fly type of deal maybe? The one on the back of his neck is white, like a patch of missing fur, and the rest are black. I don't know what to think except maybe he got wounded by a cat or something, and some sort of parasite laid eggs in the wounds? http://imgur.com/a/Lrhqh

sorry i cant figure out how to just post pics here

I've seen these before, not really sure what causes these growths. They are almost like warts.

good call, this is the only response ive gotten on other forums. ive looked it up and seems like it is usually harmless, but in some extreme cases it gets out of hand and messes up the deers ability to do normal deer stuff, and will result in it getting killed or dying. most cases like this tho seem to just be an eyesore, nothing more. its new to me tho, and had me worried. didnt know if it was the start of something contagious and detrimental to the local deer population. its taking all of my willpower to leave that cam alone a few more weeks. i dont like stinking up my camera sites too frequently.
