Its imposable to tell from the photo until it raises its head, could be horn or a stick laying on the ground that shows in the photo

OK, what species of deer is it, it's in the Idaho mts at 6500'

My guess is its a young whitetail buck.

To me, the first thing I notice, is the smaller ears.

To me it does not have the blocky body of a mule deer. I have whitetail in my back yard every day so that may have also helped a bit

To me, his neck and belly line does not indicate that he is more than a 2 1/2 year old buck.
