I saw that one. Pretty crazy. They could have saved a lot of time and money just sending it to freezer camp.

I am sure there are some folks in Tennessee that would have been glad to rid the GSNP of their problem for free. I was thinking a good smoke house might have been a more appropriate place for the bear than the freezer, but either way the bear would have no longer been a nuisance.

The freezer is great swede, though im sure a nice smokehouse would work too if a guy knew what he was doing.
I recently found that my kitchen freezer was hiding all of the backstraps from my 2021 bears. How that happened, i dont know, but ill tell you ive been enjoying that oversight all week now

I was just thinking a smokehouse might be the most fitting resting place for a Smokey Mountain bear, but either way the problem would be solved. Now they have a trained bear, that knows how to travel great distances, to deal with again.

Govt money well spent, they've known forever moving bears doesn't work. I did a report in school in the 80s about it, and they still do it. They either return regardless of the distance, or get killed by the dominant male they get planted on top of.

A buddy of mine was the government wolf trapper in Northern Mn. At that time the first time he captured a wolf he tattooed the wolf and drove 100-150 miles and dumped them in the Boundary waters in MN.
He use to joke that the wolves often beat him back to the traps .
the second time he captured a problem wolf , it was recored, time and location the moved.
the one year he trapped thge same 57 problem wolves before they he could use a .22
