Where did they go. ?

Postby Lefty » 06 16, 2021 •  [Post 1]

Had two bigger boars hitting the bait off and on. And only at night,. Had an chocolate and his little chocolate side kick hit the bait twice mid day and havent seen them since
A fair sized boar hit the bait a few times at sunrise. And two small pretty ones have been almost regular 8:00AM till 1:00. Pm. Both just barely out of the dink bear category.
Wife says shoot one!
Buddy says the same thing.
Daughter said a small hide is easier to hang on a small wall
Another friend said there is ground shrinkage on most bears, . . Tanning is $159.00 regardless of size.
I took my tree stand down; I dont think I can convince myself to shoot either with a rifle. But it sure would be easier to flesh a smaller hide.

The top pic bear is in the freezer!
His two little ugly chocolates buddies came in at 6AM, then the other an hour later.

Blackie came in at 9:43. I was disappointed in my shooting. I slightly flinched with the safety on, and the cross hairs covered about 6 inches of bear.
I couldnt tell, before the shot. The bear leaned down to work the barrel , the bear had slightly quartered, the shot took out the shoulder, spine , both lungs, main artery,. and centered behind the far shoulder. Animals don't hit the ground any faster than that, barely a leg twitch.

Andrew added this bear to the freezer.
Two days of sitting,.. only seeing ravens ; he was sick from the heat and ready to quit . When this little gal showed up. Perfect shot, she almost made it 30 yards.

5:15 PM Meat and hide Cut and packed on 120 lbs of ice . and it was 99 degrees out .

Good job persevering and knocking a couple down.

Weve never had so many bears on a bait. But Ive never had such a good supply of baits either nor have we stayed on baits in June

All smaller bears . The three bigger boars havent been back for weeks.

Sunday the camera showed 6 different bears during the daylight. And the two chocolates that came in on me Friday didnt show or the Sow and cub during daylight .
This area is not know for having many bears. But baiting is part of the fun.
Next year my daughter needs one, and or me with archery gear.

Love bear hunting over bait. It takes 4 years to draw a tag in my permit area in Mn.
