lucky me

Postby muzzyelk » 11 10, 2020 •  [Post 1]

I shot a cougar because I wanted to keep up my record of seeing at least one deer every time I went out hunting. I was on the way back after my morning hunt and decided to stop and run up a blocked off road and see if I could at least see one deer. as I was walking into a clearcut I thought I saw a little movement out in the cut and so I stopped and looked through my binos to see a cougar staring at me. it was sitting down quartered towards me at 150-200 yards. I was to shaky to take the shot offhand and all the little alders along the road made it hard to find a spot where I could get a clear shot sitting down but after about 3 minutes I finally found a spot where I could be sitting down and still get a clear shot. the cougar stayed in the same spot the whole time just staring at me and when I shot I thought it dropped but was not 100% sure. after a couple seconds it pushed itself up on its front legs then fell back down. I made my way over and it was dead right where it had been sitting when I shot it. checking it out after i got it home the bullet went through the lung on the close side and because it was sitting it then went into the top of its guts and lodged inside the spinal cord which is why it dropped. it weighed 120 pounds gutted out.
