Don't fix it if it ain't broke...

Postby 7mmfan » 06 12, 2020 •  [Post 1]

After missing out on the elk tags in the region we hunt in Idaho this year, my enthusiasm to head east was deflated a little. I'd strongly considered taking a year off and just hunting locally in WA. As our special permit drawing neared though, I quickly realized that my chances of having a quality hunt of any kind other than maybe bear, was slim. As soon as our drawing results posted and I saw the inevitable goose egg, I logged onto the IDFG and purchased my deer tag. Dad followed suit. We'll be heading back to our hunt area this year with only deer tags in hand.

We're taking this opportunity to scout out some new areas for elk. We've got a short list of places that we're going to spike into and see what we can drum up. I know for certain that since I won't have an elk tag in my pocket, the big bulls will be a plenty. I'm considering buying a 2nd deer tag if there are any left at the end of July to try and increase my meat yield. We've been a 1 deer/1 elk household for a few years now. 3 deer and a couple bears should tide us over though I think.

Now if I can just get out of this wedding I'm in that scheduled for the opening day of Idaho deer season, I'll be good to go.
