Weird year. Tough hunting

Postby wawhitey » 02 06, 2023 •  [Post 1]

Went out to call lions today in an old standby kind of area. Good wintering area for deer. Not one deer track. Zero. There were moose tracks, and coyote, and wolf. No deer whatsoever, and not surprisingly no cats. This is such a weird year. We got such an early heavy snowfall that deer wintering areas seem to have shifted, though moose seem pretty unaffected. Heading 20 miles in the opposite direction tomorrow morning, check out another spot, but im pretty much at a loss. Most of the deer activity that ive seen seems to be concentrated around low elevation areas where private land dominates. The hills, where the public land is, seems to have been abandoned by deer mid december. If the spot i go to tomorrow doesnt show any deer activity, ill just focus on the state land in my neighborhood. Im probably a fool for not just focusing on that to begin with.

My daughter and neighbor had a lion on their property sometime yesterday 2/13.
limited season out here lots of city deer and the cats just follow them in.
