Awesome. Looking forward to the story and the results. Will you spend much time calling?

Neither does this. Definitely taking a rifle to backup the .460. Not sure which one. Either the .444 marlin with a red dot, or the .450 bushmaster with a 1-8×28 scope. Kinda want to use the ar just for the novelty of it. I mean i bought the thing, and dont know what else id use it for. May as well kill one bear with it anyway.

Congrats! You have some sweet looking guns there - what model .460 is that? Are you loading for that thing?

Its the standard .460 xvr, put some nill griffe grips on it and had it cerakoted. I dont roll my own, but i do save my brass, cause the way things are going i may need to. And factory rounds are really expensive

3 more weeks. 3 more weeks..... getting bear fever here. My plan is to go out on the opener, way too early, burn myself out hunting before the hunting gets good, maybe get my truck stuck in the mud. You know, standard spring bear procedure.

In the meantime, think ill go try to call in a lion tomorrow if i can get up early enough. Got home from work in the wee hours of the morning and crashed all day so my sleep schedule is all screwy. Hoping i can get up and moving at 0400 for another lion calling failure

Wawhitey - do you ever tan or do any taxidermy on the cats or bears you get?

Yeah, i got some on my walls and some still in limbo that im hoping to get back sooner rather than later. Ill ditch a subprime yote fur without a second thought, but bears are different. Unless theyre really rubbed out or something it just seems wrong to leave them in the woods, figure a guy should at least have the fur tanned if nothing else. Maybe ill make a big patchwork bear fur quilt someday, or something along those lines.

He looks awfully white and pasty to have done much tanning. He could use a little spray on like Ross in that Cheers episode.....

Spring bear season has not gone as planned. Left for alaska the day before the opener. Went out the next morning after i got back to start hunting. 3 hours later got called back for a 3 day canada run. Damn. Headed home and checked my back yard cam and a lion was there just an hour earlier, with 2 days left in the season. Got back from canada, drop my phone overboard getting off the boat. Head home. Get new phone. Wake up early, loading my truck up with hunting gear at 630am, phone rings. Work again. Need me to hustle to seattle immediately, head to alaska for about 3 weeks. So here i am (rock you like a hurricane) sailing north once again. 21 days into the season with 3 whole hours of hunting under my belt. When i get home around the 25th im turning my phone off for a couple weeks.

I wish. I was in bear country last weekend and saw a small bear while out looking for camp firewood. Looked to be a yearling mama had just booted. Was not in a permit area though.

Report? Ill report that my previous boast about not allowing more interference frim my employer was apparently hot air, and im a spineless yes-man. Back to alaska i go. Got 3 days of hunting in finally, which i spent hunting areas ive never been to, which turned out to be not worth my time. Yesterday afternoon i decided to get up to an area i know to be good, but havent been there in 5 years. So i get up there with enough light to hunt 3 hours. Bear crap everywhere. Its still a hot spot. I should have started off there, but i like poking around new ground. Quick job coming up, should be home on the 3rd, and i know exactly where ill be going.

Use a different excuses,... like the money was calling, so you can retire and hunt all you want at 50 years old.

Got up here yesterday and set camp. Howling winds. Screwthis.com. hang out at camp. Get up before daybreak. Start doing my thing. Back to howling winds. I can deal with this, use it to my advantage.... thunder. Look up, black clouds heading my way. Now lightning. Torrential downpour. Rain / hail, wind, thunder and lightning, what a mess. My bear season isnt going so well. Did see a bull elk and a couple cows today though during one of the very short fleeting breaks in the storm. Nice out now that its almost dark of course. Got a good fire going to warm my bones.
