Bait thief

Postby wawhitey » 04 03, 2020 •  [Post 1]

Put a dead goat in my back yard hoping i could pop a coyote or two from my living room window. Lion came along last night and drug the goat off. Guess i should have tied it to a tree.

My father in law went on a LDS Mission to Africa, because the military rejected him .. He also hunted a few times. And did kill a leopard. And bait was a live goat. Put in a stock and had to be tied. The reason: every goat could climb a tree or jump a stock when a leopard showed up. And maybe that applies to dead to dead goats too

We use to accumulate huge bait piles from trapped fur-bearer carcasses. Always interesting to what may show up.
Ok for the squeamish this is going to get gross. Well it was nasty a long time ago
A Wyoming rancher gave us a cow that was turning soupy inside to move out from the ranch house to use for bait,.. we wrapped a tow strap around the neck and were maybe 2 miles from the ranch yard when the head separated . Getting the nasty juice all over my buddies snatch strap,.. Years later that strap still stuck,.. and we never did catch coyote with in a mile of that carcass

Living in the very southern part of Battle Ground Washington I pegged beaver carcasses to the ground by my kids sand box. Until the coyotes figured out to chew he tail off to drag off the beaver carcass

My wife calls it chumming for coyotes. I put goose carcasses out for local predators and birds of prey. Just a little entertainment.
.
Always fun to do it the non standard way and get something you weren't expecting

I posted this last spring, but what was an antelope doing in the bear woods? And a good week after the bait was gone

In june Donuts, marshmallows, plum jam, apple sauce , fruit cocktail peanut butter , cat and dog food

This one may be more to your liking ,,, or dis-like,.. She is much more attractive without the vest and has always been pleasant in years past.

Tossed a chunk of beef scrap over the fence last night. Gone this morning.
Set the trailcam and a big chunk of beef fat . Should get a pic of a red fox .
I think that little guy was in the back yard and got lost , something dug out under the dogs chain link last night

Wish i had foxes around here. You should make friends with them. Theyre fond of barbequed chicken.

Is that fox out on the dock!
Im not sure what it is with Alaskan fox, brave? hungry? friendly?
or just like that BBQ sauce!

An old friend has stayed in Alaska since he left Mn. One of his early years a whale rolled up on a beach near where he was working. He set 25 foot hold traps near trails leading to the carcass and had 22 fox on his check!

My neighborhood fox didn't show last night. I hope they noticed the magpies today .

A friend has a fox in Wyoming oil field, comes up to all the pickups like a dog , looking for friends with food

Daughter boyfriend had a little bear on the ranch that did the same thing. Sat outside and waited for supper scraps
