Coyote hunting CO

Postby Arrowslinger615 » 11 23, 2019 •  [Post 1]

I’m looking at going to the Pawnee National Grasslands this weekend to hopefully bag a few coyotes. I’ve recently built a fleshing beam and want to try my hand at skinning and tanning the hides. Any info on where to hunt or how to skin/tan would be much appreciated. Or any landowners who need some coyote control feel free to hit me up :)

All of my coyote hunting has been just a spur of the moment thing. I have tried calling them with minimum results. It is one thing to pique their interest, and quite another to get them within bow range. Are you trying to shoot one with your bow?

Ideally yes but I’m gonna bring the .243 along just in case I can’t get em in range

I would use a remote electronic call and stay well hidden. Those dogs have a bad habit of seeing everything. I have shot from a tree stand. Fortunately they don't look up, but still I rarely see one that I can shoot.

You'll need a ground blind if going to shoot with a bow. Calling is the most effective way to kill them.

there are different types of tans
I have a moose hide I havent finished ,. tanned a few small hides with decent results , but none like a commercially tanned hide

Im sure there are some good coyote skinning y-tubes
Think about leaving the feet and claws on I believe they display nice.

years back we did some trapping in the Og0la grasslands/badlands in Nebraska and Thunder basin Wyoming about 80 miles north . Beautiful country

Some good youtube vids on skinning. Use the 243.

Definitely the rifle. Calling them in, theyre on high alert. Getting one with a bow in that scenario would be insanely difficult. And theyre tiny targets. Ever actually skinned a coyote? Once all that fluff is off youll see their chest is half the size it looks.
