Cat in a box

Postby wawhitey » 01 19, 2019 •  [Post 1]

So a guy i know is a bobcat trapper, makes a lot of money doing it. Hes teaching me how to do everything, and i intend to have my trapping license next year. Anyway, i told him he should set a trap along a trail on my property that the cats like to use. Got this female in it yesterday. Cant wait to start doing my own trapping next winter.

I piddled around and didn't get my trappers license until it was too late to be able to trap cats. Next year.

Looks like decent color for your area. Maybe worse than hunting elk :D

I hung some cat snares in the desert earlier in the week while goose hunting. May have blown my chance,.. a cat came through the first night and I missed him.

I use to hunt Vancover lake in Clark County Washington. I told my hunting buddy I I could catch a beaver out there,.. a mile from shore. He though I was nuts,. Next day we brought a couple snares out. Following day I had a beaver He had a blast trying to release it.
He got hooked ,.. I gave him some videos and instruction over the phone . He gave up a Vice Principle position to trap and makes as much trapping problem beaver as he does in education and does it with his sons.

Knew a fellow in Arizona that cage traps cats,..

But if you want excitement I was able to use footholds back then. Walk up to a set with the trap out of the bed,.. Even more fun when rookies are along

Just set my first trap, here on my property, same spot this one was set. Id do more, have lots of good spots in mind and 4 more traps in my barn, but dont want to use my giant awkward borrowed truck to do it. Prices are in the toilet this year due to nafa going tits up anyway, so no big loss. I now have passed my trapping test and can get on it next year. This single trap at home is kind of a test run. Im sure ill have screwed it up somehow the way this year is going for me. Probably trap a skunk and get sprayed in the face dealing with it. Sounds about right.

You'll get one.. Sounds like there are a lot of bobs in your area, and, they are not the sharpest knife in the drawer ;). Used to love trapping them in NW MT back in the day. Do you have water on your property? The other thing that I truly loved trapping was mink..... You're probably too low for Marten but they're a blast also. Good luck with your first stub tail!

No water on my property but theres a creek and a pond just across the road, my critter highway is the trail everything seems to use heading down there. Even had an otter in my field last summer, came across the road from the pond i guess

With as many boobs as it sounds like are around your house, you will learn pretty quick how to catch them. My cousin traps a fair amount and he says the learning curve is pretty steep, but he loves it.

I've been most out of the trapping industry. And don't what's going on that direction.
My since childhood friend has Wiebe Trapline Adventures on the Pursuit Channel Thursday nights.
I was A pretty good trapper in my day, k hunting is much easier

There use to be some good You tube clips. Seems to be more moron clips now.
