Headed to water

Postby Lefty » 08 11, 2020 •  [Post 1]

Not much happening on this page so just a little report
My daughter invited me sturgeon fishing. It was to hit 97 degrees,, some of my least favorite weather. So out on the water at first light
And we didnt have any bait. A short trip to town for crawlers. With the hope of catching bait. Hours later finally I landed a fish for bait.

While they were rigging up for sturgeon I felt a nibble on the crawler and I set the hook.
Andrew commented ,"Thats not the bottom" I could feel the shakes but knew the fish was bigger than my 6 lb test line. The fish was coming up like the first halibut I ever caught . No real fight just pulling weight through the water. We knew something would happen soon. I lightened the drag, moments later the 30lb sturgeon hit the surface and the line broke at the rod tip,,,,

Our only fish of the day.

Neighbors landed a 6.5 footer after a fun to watch tussle, They also landed 5 others and lost 3. A good day for them.
The guide with 6 clients never landed a fish. :?

Now back to elk 8-)

Last week were were out after sturgeon. . landed a 3 1/2 lb smallie.

Andrew announced "the big one is under Julie!"
There is a single 100 inch sturgeon below the dam and he came into view on the fish finder. A short moment later, tip, tip, and Julie drove the hook home. And the fish was off ,, burning 80 lb braided line from the reel,..
Once she got her footing, she braced her feet, Andrew and I hung onto her,
Crack

about a 1 minute challenge and it was over
