Instant coffee mixed in oatmeal

Postby six » 06 13, 2012 •  [Post 1]

Anyone try this? I put a scoop of protein powder, spoonful of instant coffee, 1/2 a cup of oat meal, and boiling water in a bowl this morning. I mixed it up and covered it for 2 minutes. It's not great but I will be able to handle it for breakfast for 2 weeks come September.

I think I just puked a little in my mouth

Um, great idea, but I will pack energy shots, I just need one a day.

Hey six, I'll give it a try. Food weight is always a factor during my hunting season. Wonder how powdered protein ,oatmeal, and powdered vanilla creamer would taste!

Gross.. :( The protein power in the oatmeal doesn't sound too bad. I'll continue have my backcountry coffee separate though.

I agree....protein powder in my oatmeal sounds good, but I'll stink to drinking my coffee separate.

Just curious as to why you put the instant coffee in the oatmeal? Just being adventurous or are you trying to combine everything into one cup?

I remember using the instant coffee from our MREs like chewing dip to stay awake on long patrols or guard posts. Mmm Folgers! I don't think I could just eat it tho.

My thought was to kill 2 birds with one stone. Mix it up a little runny and call it good.

I think a scoop of hot chocolate mix would be OK .

John

I put some of the wifes foo foo creamer in the mix this morning. Made a huge difference. It took the bitterness away.

six, great idea with testing out the grub at home so you can make the needed adjustments there & not be in the field wishing you had something different! Of course when a guys hungry everything tastes good! (grin)

I tried it this morning as well. It was actually kind really good. Tasted like vinilla oatmeal.
