Bugles in October?

So I didn't get the job done in archery here in Wyoming, so going rifle on the 15th. Do elk regularly bugle that late? Are calling elk even a viable option this time of year, and if so, what typr of calling?

Sure calling in October is still a viable option. I have called bulls in October, but never as a hunter. I was just playing around, so I did not try to work them. I would try some night calling to locate bulls. After I located a bull or two, I would follow that up at first light, then work in from there.

Soft cow calls in dark timber and watch the wind. They're gonna probably come in quiet.

We've had great success calling bulls in in October in both Colorado and New Mexico...right now, the bulls here in sw colorado are really bugling, and respond great to cow calls. In the muzzleloader hunts in NM, weve had cows and bulls come running into our setups, and several years ago in sw colorado, during the third rifle season, we had bulls bugling and chasing each other cause of a hot cow...and that was very exciting...

I was out on October the 11th deer hunting (a few days ago), and had a bull bugle from the same wallow I shot my bull (see Idaho backpack bull) this year. Never did see the 28"+ buck I was after .
