Late October Nevada Hunt - Advise, Please

Postby Chukarhunter » 09 17, 2012 •  [Post 1]

I'm helping a friend's son on a bull elk rifle hunt the last week of October.
This is a new area for me, so I'm going in with just Google Earth and topo maps to scout with. I've found a few areas that I think should hold elk, but I'm unsure what to expect from them at this time of year. I figure the rut will be pretty much over, so I'm not expecting much vocalization. Should I be using cow calls, or do you think bugling will be the way to go? Should I throw out a few locator bugles, then switch to cow calls? Or, should I just do the 'ol spot and stalk and keep quiet?

Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks in advance.....

Well I would still use the cow calls, they are vocal all year long , bugles no, How many times have you gone into a room filled with ladies, and it was quiet ? my point exactly
