Idaho - rifle this early?

Postby Muskeez » 08 31, 2016 •  [Post 1]

I got an email from an acquaintance yesterday showing me a picture of his friend that shot a big bull in Idaho with a rifle. No other details, just a pic of the guy, elk, and rifle across the rack. Barrel looked way too long to be a Muzzleloader and it had a big scope on it. Just curious, does ID have rifle seasons open this early in the year?

Yes, Idaho has a couple rifle hunts this early. One is a desert hunt that you need a special permit for (not draw just need to get the permit) that is a 1/2 mile strip along some ag property and the INL property. Some big bulls shot each year, but it is a battle zone hunt. More of a depredation hunt than anything else.
