how common are passthroughs?

Postby WYO_ELK » 08 05, 2016 •  [Post 1]

I have shot 3 elk with my bow and haven't had a pass through. I am not shooting a super powerful setup. about 270 fps and around 60 ke. I thought maybe it was because I didn't have enough power, but watching some videos on youtube, it seems that a pass through on an elk is not a common occurrence. so, do you guys get pass through or not? of yeah, I have shot mine with a muzzy 4 blade, magnus stinger, and magnus buzzcut

I'm 1 for 1 and hit the shoulder blade. Arrow stayed in the elk but got two holes.

I would guess I have about 20% pass through hits. It does not seem to matter what the distance is. If bone is hit on either side the arrow does not exit the chest cavity. If no bone is hit, then it passes through.
