help choosing a elk hunting area

hi all
i am planning a elk hunting trip with my son and have narrowed my choices down to the following places 1. muddy pass 2. rabbit ear pass 3. buffalo park 4. red dirt reservoir. i have not hunted these areas before and was looking for any info on these areas that might be helpful for us.

Colorado. Never hunted those areas, so can't help unfortunately. I would also be careful about posting about specific areas online...it's a quick way to ruin a solid area. Maybe try giving the wildlife officer in the area a call and ask them the same questions. I'm sure they would be willing to help a bit.

Gmu would be a better reference, as rabbit ears alone sits over 2 different gmus, there are literally like 6 muddy pass's in Colorado. As well as a few buffalo parks. So someone could give you info on an area referencing the one they know but it's not even the one you hunted I know of 2 red dirt reservoirs as well one know one known only to locals in the area

I once had a guy try to help by giving me info on Coal Creek in Colorado. Do you know how many different Coal Creeks there are? Lol. Do what I did. Pick one you like and go with it. I drove myself nuts trying to pick. I settled on a spot. Drove out and looked around. Came back home to Alabama and ended up going with plan B because the road was out on plan A. I called CPW and talked about the area and I feel pretty confident about it. I feel so confident now that I just bought a dedicated meat pack for the elk destined to end up in my freezer.

May I ask where your Coal Creek is? There is one near my chosen spot and it is my backup spot if my others don't pan out. I don't want to be stepping all over anyone.

Get a mile or two off the roads and you won't be stepping on too many! A lot of road warriors here but a lot less willing to hike a while.

So I've heard. My spot is 4 miles off the road. I have this feeling that we are going to run into very, very few folks. I am feeling extremely confident in seeing elk for some odd reason.
