Hunting elk sub 6000 elevation

I want to get everybody's thoughts on Hunting elk below 6000 feet during the archery season. The first year I elk hunting I did find elk around 5500 feet but the next four years never found them in that area again. It was a dry year and I did find a few watering holes. Does anyone hear hunt below 6000 feet during archery season? The area I'm talking about has a lot of pinion and Oak brush. Are there different tactics in hunting elevations of this nature? Just trying to make plans c,d and f

Of coarse we know hunting below 6,000 feet in the northern States is different than in the southern ones. I hunt lower elevations because I prefer hotter drier regions. There are fewer elk, but the high areas has water everywhere. I think it is habitat and evidence of current elk use that we need to key in on. If there are elk farther down, and you want to wait at a water hole, your chances for success are excellent in hot dry areas.

our whole area this year is pretty much below 6,000. I don't want to go low on the mountain because I believe there is a lot of private land there. If we have to, we will, but I hope not to.
