Altitude effects???

Last year I had no physical effects of altitude sickness however, my mind didn’t seem to be functioning at 100 percent. Anyone have these symptoms. Can you suggest something to remedy this. I don't drink and am in pretty good shape at 46 years old.

altered mentation is a classic early symptom of Hypothermia. But I do not think I have ever noticed that with altitude sickness. I notice loss of appetite, and poor sleeping the most.

I just got back from a 9500-10,500 back packing trip, I had a headache for 2 days, and this was after spending a week at 4,300, I cant wait till september when we are back there and have gone from 700 to 9500, its going to suck!

What? My mind is permanently stuck on elk hunting. I have the symptoms you describe before I leave home. It seems to be chronic with me. I was hoping to get back to elk camp to just try and cure up the problem. Do you think it is the 300 foot altitude I live at that is causing the situation?

Thanks guys. I read this post last night.

I'm clearly not drinking enough water. Typical day I drink a cup of coffee in the am, 2 liters of water from my water bladder during the day and then a couple bottles of water at night. I'm going to try more water this year.

You may want to get a Lifestraw or other approved water filter if there are any streams or other good water sources where you hunt. That way you don't need to carry as much water with you. I have two of them. The air up there is very dry! I live at 6200 ft and I still need a couple of days to acclimatize if I go above 10,000 ft.
