Just messing with a cow

Sunday evening my wife and i made a short ATV ride and were coming back to our new elk camp location. Right before camp I spotted a cow elk sky lined 3/4 mile off in the distance. I slowed the ATV down and stopped just past camp.We snuck up on a two cows grazing. I thought I would push it and moved to 90 yards from the nearest cow and sat down. We were in for a treat.
I could here geese off in the distance the geese got closer and closer. Most full adult geese aren't able to fly this time of year while molting. 48 geese cleared the ridge,at 7127 feet elevation.. maybe by only 50 feet . Both elk turned their whole bodies to watch the geese. Looked a bit comical .

Minutes later one of the cows stated our/my direction, took a few steps and stared more. My wife was behind and to the side of me, That cow started making those nervous popping grunts. At first they were a minute apart. That cow was demanding my wife to respond. After 8-10 minutes the cow walked towards my wife and I later bot thought so the cow would check the wind. At 55 yards the cow winded me and took off. I made a terrible sounding cow mew. The cow stopped and turned back. Sometimes making her demands only 10 seconds apart.Again she came back to with in 60 yards. Thirty minutes of great entertainment, and elk education.

I need to get back into some elk again. Sounds like a good time and an educational experience too.

That is awesome. i cant wait to get out in the woods, but it will have to wait about a month from now as im totally swamped with work and stuff until then.

Originally I was going to make the camp lower,.. but this location we could hear what is happening to the north of us during the night. I need to make a bathroom for my wife and daughter
